Twas the day before Christmas and all through the land everybody was scrambling to increase last minute sales. The suppliers were worried the hype did not work. With Bush economics most pockets were hurt.
The parents all huddled and worried with dread. No Wii could be found. Would Xbox 360 do instead?
Jazz with his chew toy and I with my schnapps’ had just settled in to watch Jamie Foxx. When all of a sudden with no warning or call I realized that I was not in the Christmas spirit at all.
Concerned with my attitude I looked for the reason. The harder I looked the more I disliked this season. The trees and the lights all seemed to mask something important.
What was missing I wondered why I pondered my pinch. And then it hit me like a bag full of bricks. The smell of greed and commercialism had invaded the season. I’m not sure when I realized but I do know the reason.
We have forgotten to put Christ at the center of things. And as a result — no true joy for the season to bring. I know I sounds crass and a little bit cynical but is it Christmas really Christmas if our focus is not spiritual.
So as I end this cautionary tale. I hope your holiday includes without fail the story of the Christ child bundled and loved. The cherished Son of God who came to redeem us all!
Merry Christmas!
